What you wear will have a big impact on the success of your portrait, but there are some simple guidelines that we think make it easy for you to "dress for success."
  • Clothing can be dressy or casual; both make great portraits. Make sure everyone is comfortable and the clothing relects your style.
  • Simple clothing and solid colors always photograph best. The goal is to show you at your best, and large prints may be distracting in a portrait.
  • For most adults, sleeveless tops and over-sized clothing are not flattering. Long sleeves usually are most flattering in portraits. Children, however, look fine in sleeveless or short-sleeve outfits.
  • Hands and feet may show, so check your nails and coordinate your shoes, socks, and ties.

Seniors

  • Bring along several outfits, dressy, casual, winter, summer, sports or activity related, or just plain fun. We will help you choose what will look best with different backgrounds.
  • For ladies, your hair usually looks best in your normal style. For guys, it's best to get your hair cut a week or more before the session to give it a chance to grow out some.
  • Come with makeup ready to go, but you may want to bring along some extra for touch ups.
  • It's best to avoid sunburn.

Glasses

  • If you wear glasses, we strongly recommend getting a pair of lensless frames from your optometrist. We will retouch to eliminate glare in your final portraits, but it's much better to avoid the glare altogether.

Groups

  • Color-coordinated clothing always looks best in group portraits. Some easy ideas that look great are denim, khaki, or black & white. Dressy clothing looks best in similar tones, such as all light or all dark.

Children

  • Most of the above also apply to children, but keep in mind that simple, classic clothing gives a timelss quality to your portrait. Children frequently look best without shoes, so you may not have to worry about the shoes.
